HELPING TODDLERS DEVELOP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

“Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.” – Haim Ginott

One of the most important lessons you can teach your children is that life will have success and failure.   How they choose to deal with these ups and downs will give them a far more balanced approach to life.

Four wonderful words to use regularly with your children are: “Let's figure this out”.  Prompting your little ones to create a “can-do, will-try” is a great start.   Firstly, with a little help, nurture your child’s belief in their abilities to solve their own problems.   Having confidence in themselves will allow them to take risks that will help them solve little issues as they arise.  Here are a few suggestions to help:

1. Let them play with positive friends - Surround children with a positive, uplifting environment.  Explaining to children that they should choose friends who make them happy and they have fun with.

2.  Teach them the law of attraction - The law of attraction simply states that you will eventually receive the opportunity, in some form, to achieve that which is in alignment with your most dominant thoughts.  Have your child repeat positive affirmations in the mirror with you every day. Phrases like “I am creative, I am strong, I am a good friend, and I make a difference in the world” plants the seeds of positivity in their hearts and impacts their lives in a tremendous way.
Nothing can stop your child from achieving greatness, from potty training to leadership,  when they make positive thinking their habit.  If they feel confidence in themselves they are better equipped to be kind, compassionate humans.

3. Help children to express all their emotions - Let your child feel safe enough to cry, show frustration, laugh and express joy.   This habit has been shown to avoid mental health issues later on in life.  Being able to express all their emotions in a safe space without judgement will help them to work through issues without bottling it all up.

Last Thoughts - Waking up every morning to a brand new day with a fresh start and a good attitude, is the first step in positivity.   Practice a joyful attitude around the breakfast table every morning and send the kids off feeling more in control of their emotions and their day.
